He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and fodder 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
