He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
