He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
