He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he feareth 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
