He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and fodder 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
