He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
