He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
