He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
