He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble, pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
