He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 You pay full attention, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble, pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
