He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and covered by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
