He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruit and grass - 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
