He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
