He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 fruits, and grass. 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
