He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
