He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe of God 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
