He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
