He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
