He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
