He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
