He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
