He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 You neglect. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
