He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
