He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he feareth 9 You neglect. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
