He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble, pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
