He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 You neglect. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
