He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
