He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
