He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
