He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you attend; 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
