He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 So you are after him! 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
