He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he feareth 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
