He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him you attend; 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
