He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruit and grass - 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
