He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 You neglect. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
