He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
