He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
