He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
