He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fears (Allah), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 Olives and dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
