He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 So you are after him! 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe [of God] 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
