He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
