He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruit and grass - 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
