He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
