He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.

Notes and Instructions
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
The beginning and end of every Surah mention the Surahs sent down before and after. You can click or tap on either one to go there.
How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
