He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And hath fear, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
