He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And hath fear, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
