He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
