He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
