He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
