He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
